Ivan Locke is on his way down from Birmingham to London and during the drive he makes several important phone calls. Just a few hours previously he had made a decision which is about to change his life. Acclaimed screenwriter and director Steven Knight offers up an extremely human minimalistic drama about one ordinary man.
Synopsis
Ivan Locke has a wife, two sons and a good job. It’s late at night and Locke is driving down from Birmingham to London. In the car he makes several important phone calls which irrevocably change his life. He speaks to his wife Katrina; his sons; Bethan, a former associate; and also with his boss Gareth and colleague Donal. From the passenger’s seat, the viewer observes Locke’s sincere, yet ruthless attempt to put into effect the decision he made just a few hours previously. Locke is now beginning to sense the difference between "never” and "once”.... Acclaimed screenwriter and director Steven Knight here demonstrates that, to create a powerful film, all you need is fourteen days, a superb actor – the outstanding Tom Hardy, a first-rate script and a tiny set, in this case, the inside of a car. The lights along the motorway give the film an almost mystical atmosphere, accompanying Locke’s transition between two lives. This exceptionally human drama, which prompts all sorts of questions in the viewer relating to his own life attitudes, has been screened at numerous film festivals since its premiere at last year’s Venice IFF.
