Festival Tips for Saturday 5 July

July 05, 2025, 8:00

The packed festival Saturday will be full of stars!

Vicky Krieps will present Love Me Tender, which premiered at Cannes, in the Grand Hall at 11 a.m. At 2 p.m., Michael Douglas and Paul Zaentz will introduce the restored classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the film that earned them an Oscar almost fifty years ago. You can meet Dakota Johnson at 9:30 p.m. ahead of the screening of Splitsville, and Peter Sarsgaard will appear at 10:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall to present the newsroom drama Shattered Glass.

You can look forward to thought-provoking discussions. The creators of the Serbian miniseries will attend the world premiere of Absolute 100 at noon in Čas Cinema. And at 12:30 p.m. in Pupp Cinema, Sergei Loznitsa will join audiences for a screening of his latest film Two Prosecutors. At 4 p.m., Michel Franco will present his latest film Dreams at Pupp Cinema and will stay on to witness firsthand the audience’s reactions after the screening. British director Paul Andrew Williams will also take questions from the audience after following the 4 p.m. screening of Dragonfly at Kaiserbad.

Saturday will see the start of both competition sections. The Crystal Globe Competition kicks off in the Grand Hall with the Portuguese film The Luminous Life at 5 p.m., followed by the French drama Out of Love at 7:30 p.m. You can catch the red carpet arrivals and film introductions live on KVIFF.TV. The Proxima Competition opens at the Karlovy Vary Theatre with the Czech film The Other Side of Summer at 4 p.m., followed by the German production Rain Fell On the Nothing New at 7 p.m.

Between film screenings, take time to explore the festival’s exhibitions. The show CABANI / 30 x Opening & Closing Ceremonies – Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 1995–2025 opens in the Interactive Gallery at the Becher Villa at 3 p.m. Later, at 6p.m., head to the Art Gallery for Václav Jirásek – Beings & Bombasts.

We also invite you to the KVIFF.TV park at 12:30 p.m. for the launch of Istria Gold, a historical novel by award-winning producer and European Film Academy president Mike Downey. The event features a discussion with special guests – producer and director Rudolf Biermann, KVIFF artistic director Karel Och – along with readings from the book by actor Josef Trojan. The first KVIFF.TV Movie Quiz kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

For music lovers, head to the Mattoni Life Bar, where Chinaski will take the stage at 10 p.m., or enjoy a performance by Emma Smetana and Jordan Haj at Rohlík Park starting at 8 p.m.
